The Big World© is a non-profit corporation consisting of all volunteers and was founded in 1990 by a small group of aviation enthusiasts.  The Big World of Flight is an educational organization that begins with a series of classroom lessons designed to introduce the student to the basics of aviation.  It is oriented towards introducing kids from age 8 to 12 to the world of aviation.  Following the preliminary classroom instruction, Big World© volunteers will "fly-in" weather permitting, to your local airport and arrange a static aircraft display. The staff will then conduct a multiple part "hands-on" training session for students demonstrating the math, science, communications and decision making skills required for flight. To date, Big World has touched the lives of more than 10,000 students though out Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and California.  Big World airplanes and staff have flown over 5,000 miles to provide educational programs to schools throughout the greater Pacific Northwest region and youth organizations such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the YMCA.  The program begins with students learning about the theory of flight, basics of airplanes, and flight planning.

Big World of Flight was in the area during May 2007 presenting their program for school children ages 8-12. There will not be any Big World of Flight activities in Brookings this year. For local information contact, email Warren Glaze. The Big World of Flight has a web page at http://bigworldflight.org
