The Brookings Airport Day
Every
year on Memorial Day weekend, the town of Brookings
holds its Azalea Festival in celebration of a local wild flower,
the Azalea. The event lasts the entire weekend with parades, music,
food, and lots of other interesting activities. The Brookings Flying
Club holds their annual Airport Day on Sunday of that weekend.
The club will offer airplane rides and helicopter rides.
A few years ago we had three T-28 Trojans arrive in formation, doing
several low passes before landing and going on display all day.
All are welcome. There is no charge for the admission, but the Civil
Air Patrol will ask for a $2 donation for autos. If you fly in,
it's free. This year, the airport day was held on Sunday May 25,
2008. If it was rained out, it would have been held on Monday, May
26, 2008.
The
Brookings Flying Club puts on the annual event to help promote and
stimulate community interest and involvement in aviation, to promote
aviation safety, to ensure the continued viability of facilities
at the Brookings Airport, and to provide educational opportunities
for the youth of Curry County through a scholarship program.
One of the many goals of the Brookings Flying Club is to interest
youth in pursuing an aviation career. Accordingly, the Brookings
Flying Club provides scholarships for students seeking an education
in that field. Students who are interested in a career related
to the field of aviation, and meet the eligibility requirements
are invited to fill out an application form. Click

a Scholarship Application. Deadline for application
receipt is May 7 of the current year.
